Better than a rope halter?

It's certainly more expensive ;)

This is the Arc de Triomphe Premium Halter. Those odd leather pieces on the cheek cross underneath to apply pressure on the poll as well as the bridge of the nose. They also remove to convert the halter into a grooming halter. (I've always just unbuckled the halter and buckled it around the throatlatch if I need to reach the jaw or anywhere the halter is covering, so I personally thought "grooming halters" were a bit silly, although perfect for the horse and rider who have it all!)

I wonder if this works as well as a rope halter, without the "rope halter" look, as you can even install a nameplate on it on SmartPak. (Nobody ever said rope halters look incredibly snazzy, even Greta's pink one, but they certainly look pragmatic.) However, for $135, I won't be the one to try it out. I love Greta's Kensington SmartPink halter. Love. It.

Plus, it's cheaper to do groundwork in a $2 rope halter and then transfer that to a normal halter. A pretty proven method as well haha!

What do y'all think?

That's my girl!

A friend took this at the barn yesterday morning. Greta and I's handy-dandy new groundwork skills were wonderfully useful hand-trotting around the arena. No pushing, no dragging, as you can see. It's nice to have a trainer that puts emphasis on groundwork as well as under saddle work.

P.S. Did I mention that I think Miss Greta is the most wonderful pony in the world? DON'T BE JEALOUS! ;)

Alternatives to Bute?

The Horse | Comparing Bute and Firocoxib Safety (AAEP 2010)

I'll have to remember this should any one (but hopefully not) ever need it. There's also BL or Buteless that's made with Devil's Claw that can be used for a long period of time without the effects phenylbutazone can have on the GI tract. I know this from my foster and rescue pony days! BL did wonders for the elderly inhabitants, and this firocoxib sounds nifty.

This is Miss Golightly

Hello, subjects. This is I, the fairest pony of them all, the queen of the barn, she from which you shall not steal hay, the inspiration for "Tiny Dancer".................. I digress....

I decided I needed to get in on the latest methods of spreading my love to the world, so I demanded Bre to set up a "Facebook" page for me. When I realized my face would not be on a book, I was a bit disappointed, but I continued on. I will have one comment or link per day, and it will be amazing, and I will rule the world. Once again, I shall demand Bre to translate these and put them on the "facebook". And I will rule the world.

Here is the "link". Now proceed to go to it. Do it.

Also, you may now "e-mail" me with whatever may come across your human mind at GretaTheHorse@yahoo.com

Now you may continue about your human lives :)
